it does work well on burns and skin irritation.
the old ones used to have one growing in a pot on the kitchen window sill and use it whenever someone got burned. In fact my mother in law called it a burn plant and I never knew it was an aloe for years.
AS to all the other stuff, I have my doubts.
That other stuff sounds more like those wagon snake oil salesmen of the old west. Selling colored water "elixir" that supposedly cured everything.
The one about "making sports drinks obsolete" is hilarious. Eating a banana and drinking a glass of water does the same thing….
There is no way aloe gel can make bandages obsolete. IT does not morph into a bandage that will cover a wound. The gel inside the leaves is like snot and your skin absorbs it right away and leaves the injury open to dirt so that one isn’t true either.

Okay, I looked through the articles you provided… And it really sounds like a lot of hyped-up crap. If aloe vera was REALLY that powerful and amazing, we would have heard a LOT more about it in the news and everything else. If it was a miracle cure for cancer, you can BET we’d all know about that. Crohn’s disease, as of this time, does not have a cure, only treatments.

Okay, to boil it all down, the only thing on that list that aloe can do is soothe the pain of burns and other topical injuries/irritations, and be an ingredient in moisturizers/creams/lotions/ and make-up. Everything else has no proper evidence or is outright bull$#17. Seriously. In fact, there’s evidence ingesting aloe vera in large amounts is toxic…

"Accelerates healing from physical burns and radiation burns" – that one has stood up to clinical scrutiny – but bear in mind, what is statisically significant often doesn’t "show up" in real life conditions.

As far as the rest, they are blowing a lot of things out of proportion (I would be insulted if I were you). Most of it is outright lies. I mean a tomato has 100,000 phytonutients in it….18 amino acids (most plant foods do)….etc, etc.

You can buy aloe at most health food stores – they don’t have the market cornered on it if you wanna try it. Lily of the desert is a fine brand, and runs about 8 bucks a quart….I’m sure they are chaging far more.

    YES it is true!

    WHY DOES IT WORK?
It works by providing a rich cocktail of micro-nutritional elements whose combined action and balance produce a more powerful effect together than would be expected from the addition of the individual components. This is because they work as a team, enhancing each other’s effect – known as synergism. It also has adaptogenic properties which means that different individuals take from it what they need, therefore the benefits vary from person to person.
    WHERE DOES IT WORK?
Aloe Vera, because of its nutritional and immune modulating properties, helps firstly to prevent injury to epithelial tissues, and when they are damaged, it promotes healing. Anttoxidants fight the destructive ‘free radicals’, the unstable compounds produced by our metabolism and found in environmental pollutants. They are thought to cause various ailments, including some cancers, as well as contributing towards the ageing process. A long chain sugar in aloe vera acts on the immune system to help regulate its activity.
An epithelium is an anatomical term defined as follows: ‘a layer of cells that covers the body or lines a cavity that connects with it’. Our largest epithelium is our skin but also included are the lining of the gut, the bronchial tubes and the genital tract. No wonder Aloe works just as well on damaged skin as it does, say, on an inflamed bowel or in asthma.
    HOW DOES IT WORK?
Its natural anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial action, combined within its nutritional constituents, promote cell growth, and therefore healing. However, it is not only helpful for people with problems; most people taking it report a greater sense of well being – they just feel ‘better’ or they report feeling calmer and less anxious. This could be due to aloe’s effect on their immune system which, you may say, becomes balanced or fine-tuned, and therefore, more efficient at defending the body from attack.

To answer another question in this discussion why is it not widely used if it is works so well?
